Relationship and Sex Education

The objective of Relationship and Sex Education is to help and support young people through their physical, emotional and moral development. It is a successful programme, firmly embedded in PSHE, which will help young people learn to respect themselves and others and move with confidence from childhood through adolescence into adulthood.

Our RSE curriculum develops attitudes and values:

  • Importance of values, individual conscience and moral considerations
  • Value of family life, marriage, and stable and loving relationships for the nurture of children
  • Learning the value of respect, love and care
  • Exploring, considering and understanding moral dilemmas
  • Developing critical thinking as part of decision-making

Our RSE curriculum develops personal and social skills:

  • Learning to manage emotions and relationships confidently and sensitively
  • Developing self-respect and empathy for others
  • Learning to make choices based on the understanding of difference and with an absence of prejudice
  • Developing an appreciation of the consequences of choices made
  • Managing conflict, and learning how to recognise and avoid exploitation and abuse
  • Teach about relationships, love and care and the responsibilities of parenthood as well as sex
  • Focus on all genders
  • Build self-esteem
  • Give young people a clear understanding of the argument for delaying sexual activity and resisting pressure
  • Link RSE with issues of peer pressure and other risk taking behaviour, such as drugs, smoking and alcohol
  • Ensure that young people understand how the law applies to sexual relationships
