The Course

Year 12

•  Unit 1 - an introduction to Paper 1: Voices in Speech and Writing. Spoken language concepts, the study of All My Sons by Arthur Miller and a range of non-fiction texts. (40% of the final mark)

•  Unit 2 in depth study of two fiction texts: one novel and either a play or an anthology of modern poetry. This will be preparation for Paper 2. (40% of the final mark.)

Year 13

•  Unit 3 (20%) Coursework.

•  Revision of the texts from year 12 and analysis of a range of non-fiction texts in preparation for question 1, paper 2.

•  Exams for units 1 and 2 will be taken at the end of Year 13

Examinations

All A-level exams are at the end of Year 13:

  • 2x 2 hour 30 minute exams
  • Coursework: Three pieces (a piece of fictional writing; a piece of non-fiction; a comparison of the two pieces in the form of an analytical essay).

Enrichment

  • Trips to see theatre productions of the set texts, if they are available.
  • Italy trip (4 days)
  • Student-led English Society
